Radioactive Seed Localization is an advanced procedure that allows our specialists to precisely target and remove small breast cancer tumors. It’s more convenient for patients and offers less risk to healthy tissue than the previous standard procedure, wire localization.
What’s involved?
The affected breast is numbed with a local anesthetic and a tiny low-dose radioactive seed is inserted at the tumor site. Within the next five days, a skilled surgeon locates and removes the seed with the abnormal tissue. Most patients are able to return home that day.
