Physical activity is good for your health. It helps control weight, boost energy levels and reduce the chance of health conditions like cardiovascular disease and even breast cancer. Here in the Piedmont Triad, our central location and mild climate encourage outdoor activity almost year-round. Check out these local suggestions to get outside and stay healthy:
- Walk, bike or jog at the park.
The Triad is home to a number of fantastic parks with playgrounds, picnic areas, dog parks and more. Several Greensboro parks and High Point parks are connected through the Bicentennial Greenway, a 14.5-mile trail system perfect for walking, running and biking. Some of our most popular parks include The Bog Garden at Benjamin Park, Guilford Courthouse National Military Park, High Point City Lake Park and Burlington City Park.
- Plan a family adventure.
Family-friendly outdoor activities are easy to find in our area. Greensboro is home to one of the largest water parks in the state, Wet ’N Wild Emerald Pointe. The Greensboro Science Center offers an outdoor zoo, farmyard and treetop adventure park. We also have access to a variety of fun family activities like miniature golf, paintball, butterfly farms and strawberry patches.
- Play a sport.
Community members of all ages can benefit from sports. The Piedmont Triad offers golf courses for all skill levels, including the beautiful Grandover Resort. There are facilities across the Triad for both organized and recreational tennis. And if you want to be part of a team, you can always find an adult kickball or dodgeball league.
- Attend an outdoor event.
An outdoor sporting event or concert is a great option to get everyone out of the house. We have local baseball teams in Greensboro, High Point, Winston-Salem and Burlington. Greensboro is host to the PGA TOUR Wyndham Championship. And events like Music for a Sunday Evening in the Park are summer staples across the Triad.
- Enjoy the water.
Swimming. Boating. Kayaking. Paddle boating. Fishing. There are a ton of water activities available in the Triad. Public Greensboro pools and High Point pools are available with spray grounds and waterslides for kids. Plus, popular spots like Lake Brandt offer boat rentals, ramps and fishing areas for the whole family.
